This 22km loop will take you along the banks of the Loir to discover its many mills, as well as through the pine forests of Soucelles and Boudré and the charming hamlet of Matheflon.
SOME ADVICE...
- This is a signposted route (signposting no. 6), on shared roads and greenways, but be careful. The loop is partly based on the cycle route, La Vallée du Loir à Vélo (V47).
- The chain ferry at Montreuil-sur-Loir is in operation from April to November, so be sure to follow the instructions when crossing it.
- Helmets are compulsory for children under 12, and strongly recommended for adults.
- Take your time and be curious.
TO DISCOVER ALONG THE WAY...
- The Boudré forest.
A sensitive natural area designated by the Maine-et-Loire department, this is a place of peace and quiet, ideal for walks and for observing exceptional flora and fauna. An 8 to 12 km interpretation trail lets you discover the riches of this protected environment.
- The pretty hamlet of Matheflon.
This ancient village boasts some beautiful old houses, as well as some very old troglodyte cellars.
- The Moulin de la Motte.
This former water mill has 15th century features in some parts.
- The Villevêque Castle-Museum and its grounds are open to visitors all year round, and at weekends from 2pm to 6pm.
- The Villevêque mill.
L'Engrenage, is open from late April to late June and September, weekends from 3pm to 6pm. And in July and August from Wednesday to Sunday from 3pm to 7pm.
- The Dolmen de la Pierre Cesée dates back to the Neolithic period and is the source of a legend about a fairy leaving her footprint on it centuries ago.
- Château de Montreuil is also open during the European Heritage Days.
- The Moulin de Vaux is open free of charge from 3 April to 1 November.

- Swimming in Villevêque is permitted from 27 June to 31 August from Tuesday to Friday, 2.30pm to 7pm and at weekends from 1pm to 8pm.
There is a beach on the banks of the Loir for swimming in summer. Water sports activities are organised throughout the summer.
