Between Saumur and Chinon, come and stay in this large troglodyte gîte, a unique type of unusual accommodation. Built by monks in the 11th century, this atypical place of exceptional character has been renovated to provide all the comforts you need for a pleasant and comfortable stay.
Access via the outside staircase, with its forty or so steps, makes this accommodation unsuitable for people with reduced mobility.
The first floor features a fitted and equipped kitchen, a large open fireplace, a large living room with table and chairs for 13 people, a sitting room with television and Wi-Fi, and a large glass roof with a magnificent view over the Loire. The terrace overlooking the Loire valley has garden furniture and a barbecue. It is accessible from both the kitchen and the living room. On this level there is a first bathroom of 23m²: shower, corner bath, vanity unit and separate wc + wc. Sleeps 2 in the sofa bed in the living room (140 x 190cm); this room has no shutters or blackout curtains, so travellers using this bed will benefit from the natural morning light.
Half a floor down, you'll find the Baker's Room with the old bread oven, with a 200 x 200cm bed and a 90 x 200cm bed.
Go down another level to discover the 2nd sleeping area, comprising two bedrooms: the Jardin d'Eden bedroom with a 200 x 200cm double bed and a 90 x 200cm single bed, then the Moines' bedroom with 3 90 x 200cm beds and a mezzanine accessible by a miller's ladder with a 140 x 190cm floor bed protected by netting. A bathroom with shower, double washbasin and separate toilet.
Within walking distance of: the bakery, Château de Parnay and its wine-tasting cellar (400m), restaurant (550m), the banks of the Loire (750m) for lovely walks or cycle rides. The Loire cycle route starts from the gîte. All bedrooms and living rooms have windows and doors opening onto the outside, making this troglodyte bright and airy.
Situated in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny vineyards, 8km from Saumur, 30km from Doué-la-Fontaine and the Bioparc and around 1 hour from Angers.
Parking: two spaces reserved for tenants along the road and vineyards. Other cars can park in the public car park by the church, 70 metres away.
Bed linen is provided and beds are made on arrival.
