Set up camp beside a fairy tale Loire Valley castle
Anjou has several campsites with commanding views of a Loire Valley château. During your stay at the Camping de l’Etang you can have a stroll through the vines (wine is made on site), visit the Château de Brissac or cast your fishing line from the banks of the lake.
At the Lac du Maine site in Angers, surrounded by water, the historic town centre is easily accessible. In Saumur too, you can stay on an island in the middle of the Loire at the Camping de l’Ile d’Offard and admire marvellous view over the château and the town.
The Isle Verte campsite in the picturesque village of Montsoreau is ideally located for going wine-tasting in the Loire Valley. L’Isle Verte is part of the Loire à Vélo cycling route network so you can pedal through the vineyards or to Fontevraud abbey once you’ve visited the magnificent Château de Montsoreau.
Lakeside living and water sports
At the Lac de Ribou campsite in Cholet you can try your hand at sailing, canoeing or rowing, or if you’re more of an artist than a sports fan, there are drawing and painting lessons too. Choose from a wide range of accommodation, from tent pitches to large cottages.
In Rochefort-sur-Loire, the Saint Offange campsite is close to a sandy beach on the banks of the river Loire where the whole family can enjoy a paddle or a swim. Hire a canoe for an hour or a whole day and explore the majestic river at your own pace.
The Malagué campsite is beside a lake and is one of only a few activity centres in France to offer cable wakeboarding. But don’t worry, you can just watch from your pedal boat if you prefer!
