Visite Conférence - Journée Internationale des Droits des Femmes

Annual Conference Visit to the Château de la Tourlandry to mark International Women’s Day – “Those forgotten female scientists of the 19th century…”

Since 2022, the Château de La Tourlandry has been organising an annual guided tour and talk around 8 March, dedicated to women who have left their mark on history, science, ideas and major societal transformations.

Conceived as a walking lecture through the historic state rooms of the 19th-century château, this original experience invites visitors to explore the Second Empire-era interiors whilst discovering portraits of exceptional women – some famous, some forgotten, but always essential to understanding their era.

Each edition is reimagined in line with the themes championed by UN Women: Eunice Newton Foote and the greenhouse effect in 2022, Ada Lovelace and the forgotten female scientists of the 19th century in 2023, Eugénie de Montijo and her support for women’s higher education in 2024, Marguerite Boucicaut and women’s entrepreneurship as a driver of emancipation in 2025, followed, in 2026, by the struggle for rights by women in science and the intellectual sphere.

For the 2027 edition, the theme will be confirmed upon its official publication by UN Women. The guided tour and lecture will take place on Sunday 7 March 2027 at 4.30 pm, as the official date of 8 March falls on a Monday, when the site is closed.
