The Bicentenary of the Torfou Column: a weekend of living history in Sèvremoine On the eve of the 200th anniversary of its commemorative column, listed as a Historic Monument, the commune of Sèvremoine and the association Torfou la Bataille have joined forces to offer a unique cultural event.
From 10 to 12 July 2026, the grounds of the Château du Couboureau in Torfou will be open to the public for a weekend of remembrance and festivities, open to all.
A rich programme for all the family: designed to honour the local memory in a shared way, this event offers a wide range of non-stop activities:
- De pierre et de mémoire": a wandering, immersive sound show created by the Torfou la Bataille association. This original one-hour show takes visitors through the ages, from 1793 to the present day.
(Tours depart every 30 minutes during the day, and two evening sessions on Saturday at 10pm and 10.30pm. Reservations required on HelloAsso, not accessible for PRM).
- 18th-century re-enactment and crafts: plunge into the heart of the Vendée Wars with a period camp run by the Cœurs de Chouans, complete with demonstrations of blacksmithing, fitting and candle-making.
- Culture and reflection: A historical round table on Friday evening at the Théâtre de Torfou, guided tours of the area, the contemporary art exhibition "Forgiveness is not oblivion", and poetry readings.
- Workshops and heritage: Participatory art workshops (linocuts) and horse-drawn carriage rides in the château grounds.
