La Pierre Tournisse

Follow in the footsteps of the Pierre Tournisse, a rock with many legends between Nantes, Cholet and Tiffauges.

Near Clisson and the Vendée, discover this 5-metre-high rock standing proudly on a granite base. The stone towers 20 m above the Bon Débit stream and weighs an estimated 390 tonnes!

Many legends surround this place and this rock. Men have seen in this stone the expression of cults that have now disappeared: human sacrifices...
Historians, however, see it as having a more mystical vocation, as the site of druidic ceremonies.

The site has certainly been used for centuries, as prehistoric flint axes and fragments of dolmens have been found here.

Today, the site is used as a backdrop for the open-air show Torfou la Bataille, held every 2 years.
