Themed visit and stone-cutting workshop at the Musée des Métiers in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine
Stone Carving Workshop: Sculpt the Tuffeau
Become a heritage craftsman and master the famous Anjou stone of light!
The Musée des Métiers in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine (Mauges-sur-Loire, 49) is offering an immersive experience for 8-15 year-olds to discover the nobility of stone and the precision of the builders' gestures.
An immersion into the heart of the material:
-Exploration "Artisans du Patrimoine" (30 min): The adventure begins with a themed tour of the temporary exhibition. Participants learn about the history of the stone trades, traditional tools and the importance of tufa in the architecture of our region.
The sculptor's workshop: time to get hands-on! After discovering the material and the tools, the youngsters are introduced to tufa engraving techniques. They learn how to manipulate the chisel to bring to life a motif inspired by the museum's rich collections.
-From stone to object: patience and concentration are the keys to transforming a rough block into a personalised work of art.
Each apprentice goes home with their own carved stone creation, a real piece of our heritage to take home with them.
Suitable for ages 8 to 15.
This activity generates stone dust, so the workshop is not recommended for allergy sufferers or those with respiratory problems.
(Adults can take part in the tour, but only children can make a creation).
