WINE ROUTES - LOIRE SAUVAGE ET CORNICHE ANGEVINE

On the Routes des Vins, this 58km wine tour by car takes you through the vineyards of the Anjou Corniche, its small villages and along the banks of the Loire... Take the opportunity to taste one of the region's AOC wines!

In Angers, your starting point, take the time to visit the Château d’Angers, a medieval fortress overlooking the River Maine. Then head south towards the banks of the Loire. Lovers of historic architecture will enjoy strolling through the narrow streets of villages along the Loire such as Bouchemaine (La Pointe) or Béhuard. Along the way, the ‘Petites Cités de Caractère’ of Denée and Savennières (a wine-growing village) are also well worth a visit. In the surrounding area, don’t forget to stop at a vineyard for a tour, a wine tasting and to pick up a bottle as a souvenir.

In Chalonnes-sur-Loire, there are a few restaurants on the quays where you can have lunch whilst enjoying a breathtaking view of the river. You’ll catch a glimpse of the Île de Chalonnes, Europe’s largest river island! On Tuesday and Saturday mornings, do pop along to the market.

The loop then takes you to Montjean-sur-Loire, where you can board a traditional boat to explore the Loire.

You’ll need to venture off the main route to discover the magnificent Château de Serrant. With its library containing thousands of books, it’s a real gem for lovers of literature and architecture!

On the way back, don’t miss the sunset at Port de la Possonnière! Just a few metres from the harbour is L’Aigrette, a contemporary artwork by Fil artistique Paysager, which is well worth a detour.
