GENNES-VAL-DE-LOIRE

Description

Chênehutte-Trêves-Cunault's exceptional heritage bears witness to the different eras and key activities, including tufa quarrying and the Loire Navy, and offers a high-quality journey through the history of the Loire Valley.

The extraction of limestone and its shipment by river have long shaped local life, followed in the 20th century by the cultivation of mushrooms in cellars. Here and there, you'll find the former priories of Cunault, Trèves and Saint-Macé, the manor house of Grissay, the hermitage of Saint-Jean, the tower of Trèves, the remains of the fortress, the château of Cunault and the beautiful Romanesque churches of Notre-Dame de Chênehutte, Saint-Aubin in Trèves and the church of Cunault, one of the masterpieces of Anjou Romanesque art. They can be discovered along the "Loire by bike" itinerary or the hiking trails. A restaurant in a cellar or with a terrace on the banks of the Loire, as well as picturesque gîtes and bed and breakfasts, invite you to take your time.
