Discover Chemillé, rich in history and the European capital of medicinal plants.
Natural heritage is the watchword at Chemillé. As the French capital of medicinal plants, Chemillé offers you the chance to discover the "Camifolia" botanical garden. This green setting with a thousand virtues is made up of more than 600 species of medicinal, aromatic and dye plants over a total area of 3.5 hectares. It's the perfect place to take a stroll and awaken your senses for an unusual and sensory discovery.
With its lush green hillsides, the Hyrôme Valley is a great place to stroll and connect with nature right in the heart of the town! The river was once very active with its cereal mills, which were later used by the textile industry, such as laundries, dye works and wash houses, all of which have now virtually disappeared. In 2020, the valley was awarded the Espace Naturel Sensible (ENS) label. The aim of the label is to preserve the quality of the sites, landscapes, natural environments and habitats and the natural flood expansion areas. Maine-et-Loire currently has 90 Espaces Naturels Sensibles.
The town is also rich in history. The Romanesque church of Notre-Dame, the ancient ramparts of the château and the Greneau bridge, the Four Mills, the ruins of the collegiate church of Saint Léonard, the gateway (dating from the 12th-13th centuries and listed as a Historic Monument in 1976) and the château square, the church of Perrochères and the Robert d'Arbrissel secondary school are just some of the heritage buildings you can discover on our Chemillé town tour.
