It's all a question of era. Spok's began in the 90s, and the sudden explosion that was to change his life came from New York. It was powerful, and it was about to claim a list of victims that was still not closed. Unable to keep his head still in front of an MPC spitting out beats, electrified by the back and forth of vinyl records on the turntable, Spok had just been wiped out by hip hop. And there's no turning back now. The rap albums he frantically collected, the EPs he lured in for remixes and a cappella versions, the tracks he insisted on hunting down even in the B-sides of hard-to-find records: this healthy base is the trigger for his musical curiosity, the gateway to the complete works of jazz, soul, funk and reggae classics.
