Les Hauts du Doré: a journey through local and industrial history This 5-kilometre route explores the heights of Puiset-Doré. It combines the discovery of local cultures with traces of the past.
Vineyards and orchards in tune with the seasons
The path runs alongside plots of Sauvignon. This grape variety can be recognised by its adult leaves with five lobes. Its bunches release notes of citrus fruit and blackcurrant buds. You'll also come across plantings of red berries. Raspberries and blackberries are hand-picked at dawn. In July, the mechanical harvesting of blackcurrants brings the hillsides to life. These fruit crops are the hallmark of the area's agricultural identity.
On the tracks of Petit Anjou
The route follows the old line of the Petit Anjou. This secondary railway linked the Mauges to the national networks. It was used to ship pottery from Le Fuilet and local produce. Put into service in 1893, it ceased operating in 1948. Today, walkers can follow this historic route, which has been converted into a footpath. These shady passages are a reminder of the importance of steam to the region.
The geological heritage of the clay zones
Clay mining has shaped the landscape since the 15th century. This mining activity has created moorland and wetlands. Ponds and still waters are home to pioneering vegetation. Look out for alders and willows in the marshy woods. These areas offer refuge to a specific biodiversity. The trail recommended by the Ôsez Mauges tourist office highlights this ecological evolution.
