Come and visit La Pierre à Fourneau in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil!
La Pierre à Fourneau is a former vineyard belonging to Julien Gracq (a French writer born in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil in 1910 and who died in 2007), who bequeathed the site to the commune of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil.
In 2022, the Vigne et patrimoine du Mont-Glonne association replanted a vineyard with 2,500 vines thanks to a subscription from 1,700 people from all over France, Europe and elsewhere with roots in Saint-Florent-le-Vieil.
It's an associative and participative vineyard, maintained and managed by the association. A hundred or so people work hard to cultivate the vineyard, while learning about its evolution over the seasons.
The association also restores old walls and vineyard huts... Around fifteen vines from Hungary, Saint-Martin's country of origin, were planted in 2023. Saint-Florent-le-Vieil is twinned with Tihany on Lake Balaton.
The key to the vineyard is available from the Saint-Florent-le-Vieil Tourist Office.
