The Festival Musical de Durtal

Every year, during the first weekend in July, the loveliest classical music melodies echo between the walls of the elegant Château de Durtal. But the programme doesn’t end there.

Tunes in a Cocoon

One of the château’s halls has been recently renovated, boasting amazing acoustics that are ideal for the repertoire. Plus, it can now host concerts for 150 passionate spectators. Each performance is recorded and broadcast live in the château’s garden and on the lawns of the Place des Terrasses, so that everyone can be serenaded by classical music – whether its your first or fifth encounter.

Whether you’re soothed, moved, or amazed by the performances, you can amplify your pleasure at numerous activities that are open to the public: meetings with festival artists, a stage that is open to amateur musicians, château visits, heritage tours of the town of Durtal, book and record stands, and tastings of local cuisine by the best producers in the region that are sure to please every palate.

Conviviality is also part of the festival’s DNA. The inaugural, Thursday-night concert is followed by a grand banquet and a dinner is held after the Friday-night show. Saturday night, you’re invited to gather around a big BBQ at the Place des Terrasses, and you can picnic Sunday morning before roaming through town on a musical stroll.
